Futurists byStudents

Future Literacy is a concept of competence developed by UNESCO. It describes the ability to understand and engage with the future, and to use this understanding to imagine how the future may unfold in different ways. This includes the ability to critically assess dominant perceptions of the future and to engage constructively with opportunities and challenges.

Future Literacy is becoming increasingly important and is something everyone, regardless of background or education, can relate to, because only the imagination can sets the limits. It’s nothing new for young people to hear that they are the ones who must optimize and improve the world, but this will only be possible if we proactively and intentionally contribute ideas and visions of what the future can look like.

The creative and systemic thinking lays the groundwork for a hopeful approach to future scenarios. Scenarios we actually want to live in. That is why the purpose of the Futurists byStudents network is to foster a social community based on shared interest and a desire to take action on the societal issues we articulate together.

Within the network, we will explore a wide range of content related to Futures Literacy, including talks, debates, introductions to new tools, company visits, and creative workshops organized by the participants themselves and driven by their initiative.

Carrying forward Futures Lab byStudents

Futurists byStudents is an established network collectively carried forward from the successful course series Futures Lab byStudents, a collaboration between the Copenhagen Institute for Futures Studies and byStudents. The purpose of this course was to strengthen young people’s sense of shared responsibility for the future, their agency in the transitions and life phases they are navigating, and their ability to co-create the future they want.

Through Futurists byStudents, we aim to keep the unique learning environment of Futures Lab byStudents alive and maintain meaningful engagement with futures research among fellow students. Here, students’ curiosity guides which themes we explore together and which visions we each have – and want to share. At the same time, it becomes a space for (valued) critical questions, with a guarantee of good vibes.
